As a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counselor...

You will play an important role to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors complete eligibility determinations, determine the nature and scope of services required, and provide for job placement and retention, including post-employment services.  

Average Wage Range

$46,000 to $68,000 annual salary

To become a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counselor...

You will have: 

  • A Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling; certification from Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification, Certified Insurance Rehabilitation Specialist (CIRS), or the Certification of Disability Management Specialists Commission, and six months full-time work experience providing vocational rehabilitation-related services; or
  • A Master's degree in psychology, counseling, or a field related to rehabilitation and 12 months full-time work experience providing vocational rehabilitation-related services; or
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of full-time work experience providing vocational rehabilitation-related services to individuals with disabilities.
